#WeAreFirstPres Stories: Follow A Hunch

Called to serve. Covenant Partner, Joe Alexander, is Living Missionally to serve the littlest members of our Church Family. “The faith of a child is an incredible responsibility,” says Joe. “To be accountable for the little souls that I teach, Scripture makes it clear how important that is.”

Joe jokingly remembers his initial call to get involved with SHINE Children’s Ministry, “A fear of adults… but in all seriousness, I was drawn to it.” He encourages everyone to do the same. “Follow a hunch — whatever you think you might like. Use the gifts God gives you to pray for people, make someone a meal, send a note to encourage someone, color with a child… God isn’t asking you to build an ark.”

Joe finds great joy in the fruit of his kindergarteners. God does too. “We were talking about faith in God versus faith in things. We can trust God because God doesn't lie. He could if he wanted to, but He doesn't. He told Noah the truth, and Abraham, and Rebekah also, so we know we can trust God.” Joe said, “Who thinks God steals?” One little theologian piped up, “He doesn't steal stuff, but he does steal sin!” Amen!
