#WeAreFirstPres Stories: Do Good
Rev. Tanner Fox had been looking for ways to get small groups involved in serving The City. When the opportunity came to lend a hand at Samaritan Village, our Church Family answered the call. Rather than enjoying a leisurely Saturday morning, a group of First Pres 20’s woke up and went to work!
On this particular Saturday, one of the Village’s new safe houses needed to be outfitted with furniture, so the 20’s friends were tasked with assembling new dressers and beds for the space. They also had the opportunity to get to know the Samaritan Village staff and some of the women who are healing through the ministry.
Jonathan Rossi, who coordinated the 20’s serve day, shared what the morning meant to him: “We were impressed by just how much a simple task can really help those in need. I think this effort helped us realize that when we serve, we receive a lot more life than we actually give.”
Jonathan encourages all to serve with this advice: “The first step to Living Missionally is to slow down and listen. I run a pretty busy life and feel like most people do as well, but there are opportunities offered through our circumstances and circles. It doesn’t need to be a big grand gesture.”
