5 Questions for Covenant Partnership
#1 Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God and without hope for your salvation except for His sovereign mercy?
Do you admit that you are not perfect, that you are disobedient to God and His law (that you are a sinner) and that you need God’s forgiveness to be right with Him?
#2 Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior of sinners, and do you receive and depend upon Him alone for your salvation as He is offered in the gospel?
Do you believe that Jesus is who He said He was, the Son of God, and that only Jesus can save you from your sin?
#3 Do you now promise and resolve, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as followers of Christ?
Do you promise (commit) to live as a follower of Jesus as defined in the Bible with the Holy Spirit’s guidance to help you walk in obedience to God?
#4 Do you promise to serve Christ in His Church by supporting and participating with this congregation in its service of God and its ministry to others to the best of your ability?
Do you promise to use the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given to you in order to serve our church to the best of your ability?
#5 Do you submit yourself to the government and discipline of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and to the spiritual oversight of this Church Session, and do you promise to promote unity, purity and peace of the Church?
Do you promise to follow the leaders of our church as they offer their wisdom, teaching and guidance as you serve to help build God’s kingdom?
One must be able to answer these five questions in the affirmative to become a Covenant Partner. If you aren’t yet able to answer all five in the affirmative, that’s ok! Remember, covenant partnership is the last step of a long process of exploration and discernment. If you need more information on any of the above questions, now is the time to discuss these with your Elder Sponsor. The Elder Sponsors and pastors are eager to explore faith in Jesus Christ with you, and accept that not everyone knows everything all the time. There are no dumb questions! Truly.
