BOOK BUNCH

Our First Pres Staff recently had an epic Barnes & Noble Book Day and Fellowship Extravaganza! They sipped coffee, made recommendations, researched, laughed, lingered, perused, and selected their next read, compliments of Dr. David Swanson!

Check out the pictures below to see the books our staff hand-picked, and maybe even add some to your must-read list!

Karen Roberts & Christina McDaniel decided to be book twins! They picked out John Mark Comer’s The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, a book on being intentional in carving out more space and rest in daily life.

Dr. Jack Peebles embraced the call of the fantastic and expanded his love of J.R.R. Tolkien by selecting a beautiful hardcover edition of The Silmarillion!

Emily Dotson & Lindsey Bransfield both wanted to sink into a story, something light yet engaging as we transition from summer to fall!

Hannah Martin picked out Tish Harrison Warren’s Liturgy of the Ordinary, an insightful book about finding the sacred in the seemingly mundane moments of day-to-day life!

Dr. Paul Gibson chose Cal Newport’s Slow Productivity, a wise book regarding how to pace yourself in life, staying productive without burning yourself out.

Danielle Rossi opted for Kristin Hannah’s highly-regarded novel, The Women. While Shannon Basso is exploring her love of art with a volume on Van Gogh’s classic painting, Starry Night.

Elitza Rodriguez is planning on some delicious new recipes with a cookbook for she and her new husband, Jorge! And Hector Navas is diving into vintage science-fiction with a book he’s always wanted to read, Frank Herbert’s classic: Dune!

Rev. Tanner Fox is stepping up his cooking game with a book about griddling, and Alexa Rossi picked out Ann Napolitano’s novel, Hello Beautiful, as a much-needed change of pace from all her heavy seminary reading!

Jonathan Wagner is scoring all the points with his daughter by grabbing a signed edition by her favorite author, James Ponti! And Andrew Clark is doing what he usually does: wandering into a tale of brave knights and shining castles, with Lev Grossman’s The Bright Sword, a retelling of King Arthur!

And last but certainly not least, Dr. David Swanson picked up beloved author Mitch Albom’s latest effort, The Little Liar, a novel that comes to him highly-recommended!

After the bookstore, our staff headed to lunch for a time of fellowship and sharing our book choices! What a fun day of team-building and taking joy in the written word!

They say that each book one reads is another life lived. Books have a unique way of expanding not only our minds and our knowledge, but our empathy, understanding, and compassion as well. We hope you’re inspired to pick up a life-giving read this week!
