#WeAreFirstPres Stories: Necessities In Plenty

Last Friday, First Pres’ College Ministry coordinated a Serve Day to UP Orlando, a partner missions organization with an incredible goal — to serve those in poverty through crisis care, case management, transformative education, food and household subsidy, among other vital services. UP put our crew to work in their grocery store, stocking shelves with produce, and sorting between good and expired food in the warehouse. Our team contributed to UP’s ambitious goal of 45,000 volunteer hours in 2021!

As two members of our team shelved hundreds of loaves of bread, a customer shared her excitement about the availability of bread — a rare offering. It was a joy to offer food necessities in plenty, and our volunteers made it possible. Covenant Partner and volunteer, Bradley Kirksey, wrote, “when food donations arrive without volunteers to sort and stock, they often spoil before landing in customer carts. Our team was glad to sacrifice their time and energy to ensure that families had bread this week.” Bradley concluded, “We can have all the bread and monetary donations in the world, but if we don't have people willing to spend their time and put in the effort, it's all for rot. I'm really proud of our college students who got out there to make a difference.”

The next College Ministry Serve Day is Friday, 05.07, to If You Foundation. Contact Jonathan Wagner for details, and Get Involved!
