Words, Words and More Words
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Do you ever fumble for words when you pray? Some of us can go on and on, waxing eloquently (in our minds) trying to express exactly what we want to say as though if we don’t say it just right, God will miss our point!
Have you noticed how direct and succinct the Lord’s Prayer is? Short, clear phrases. Jesus cautions us against “babbling” when we pray. We are also reminded that God knows what we need even before we ask.
Sometimes lots of words make it more difficult to listen, and after all, a large part of praying, is listening. I don’t know about you, but I’m much better with words in prayer than I am with listening to God during prayer.
Today when you pray, keep it short and spend half the time listening for the Father’s voice.
