Where is Your Mind?
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Our minds are amazing things. We can travel the world and never move from our chair. We can hear the music of some song when there is absolute silence. We can remember something that happened years ago. We can view mountains and lakes, and oceans in vivid color. We can play out scenes in our minds and no one else in the world can know what we are thinking–except God.
As Jesus is commenting on the mind in the Sermon on the Mount, He underscores the dangers of a mind that wanders to places of sin. He makes the point that sin does not just happen outwardly, but that is also happens in our minds. Thoughts enter our minds. We can’t always control what enters our minds. We can control how long it stays there. Do we invite it to remain a while and enjoy its company or do we show it the door? Jesus makes very clear “lust” should be shown the door!
