Wait for Power From on High
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Prior to His leaving earth at His ascension, Jesus instructed His disciples to remain in Jerusalem until they had received power from on high – that is, the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus had told them in the Upper Room prior to His crucifixion that it was necessary for Him to leave so that the Holy Spirit could come and dwell within them. The human Jesus was not omnipresent. He could only be at one place, at one time.
In contrast, the Holy Spirit could indwell each believer giving them strength, hope, and power in every situation. The Holy Spirit could be everywhere at once. While the disciples were wondering about the future of God’s Kingdom, the Lord was interested in their spreading the greatest news of the Gospel throughout the known world.
That very same Holy Spirit is available to every believer everywhere in the world to this day. And with the disciples, we await the return of the Lord, who will come again in the same way He left.
Live this day in anticipation of that great day!
