The Mind in Worship

More Thoughts on Worship: The Mind in Worship
Last time we wrote of the nature of the physical in worship. This time we look at the mind. In coming to worship we can approach things as “we are expressing what we believe about God.”
But worship is so much more, and quite different than expressing an idea or a creed. We are not holding up lofty ideals and endeavoring to live up to them the best we can.
We worship an actual Spiritual Being. We are not “living out the Golden Rule” or some other such creed. Our minds are engaged with a Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Scriptures say “in him [Jesus] dwells the fullness of God.” God is never referred to as an “it” or as a “lofty ideal” or in any other such manner. God is never a “what” but always a “who.”
It was Moses who said, “What shall I say when they ask me His name?” in his encounter with God at the Burning Bush. God’s response was “I AM WHO I AM.”
May we encounter the “WHO” this day in your life and in your worship.
