First Pres is excited to announce the hiring of our new Organist, Steve Strite. The Lord has led both Steve and us to the same conclusion; the next chapter in his life and ours are to work together in ministry at First Pres. Steve will come to us in February 2018 from Bradenton Christian Reformed Church in Bradenton, FL where he has served as Director of Music and Worship since 2004. Previously he had been for seven years at Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Brighton, MI as Assistant Director of Music. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in organ from Oakland University and a Master’s Degree in organ from the University of Michigan. Steve is a member of both the AGO and the ACDA professional music organizations. Steve has much experience both in classical music and well as contemporary worship music. In addition, he is a fine composer with several published works by major publishers. He was the organist for the 23rd EPC General Assembly and is a thoroughly Reformed church musician! Steve will be joined by his wife, Becky, and their two daughters Allison, a sixth grader, and Julianne, a fifth grader. Please pray for their family as they make this big transition to Orlando.CONTINUE READING

We are pleased to announce that after a robust search process, our Search Committee has selected the delightful Kim Allen as the new Director of SHINE Children's Ministry.
Kim has been involved in supporting many First Pres' ministries, including teaching adult and children's Sunday School and Confirmation, writing curriculum for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, faithfully teaching Bible for our FOUR12 student mentoring program on Mercy Drive, and as a small group leader for small group leaders. Her love of the Bible is infectious and thorough, as is her commitment to helping children understand their place in God's unfolding story. As part of our church family, Kim has already helped to shape the lives of many of our children and families over the last 10 years. (She's probably even snuggled some of your babies; she loves holding babies).
Kim comes to us from Young Life where she handles event planning, training and communications for the YL Florida Region as the Regional Administrator. Prior to Young Life, she served as a Lead Teacher with Liberty Preparatory School, where she was part of the planning and implementation process for MS and HS homeschooled students, and taught logic, Bible and literature. She has a B.A. in Early Childhood & Elementary Education and Psychology from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She and her husband, Bret, (First Pres' Minister of Family Life) have four children: Andrew, John, Anna Bret and David. Her affection for her husband, for her children and for dark chocolate is the stuff of legend.
Effective July 17, our Children's Ministry will transition to become part of the Discipleship team, reporting to Rev. Jack Peebles. We are thrilled to welcome Kim in her new role, and look forward to seeing how God uses her to continue to lead the children of our church family!
