Students Serving the Homeless
This past weekend our high school students took Sunday afternoon to serve the homeless community of Orlando! They packed up a box full of cleaning supplies and spent a few hours deep cleaning the space used by over 150 of our homeless friends each week.
Compassion Corner is the homeless ministry of First Pres located just a few blocks from our campus on Rosalind Avenue. It is a cool place when it is warm, a warm place when its cold, a dry place when it’s raining, and a safe place because the streets are not always safe. They are open Monday through Thursday beginning at 8:30am with coffee and Bible study. The rest of the day is devoted to case management and care for the homeless. This is just one part of the continuum of care that we offer the homeless of Orlando through our partnership with Central Care Mission, a residential life-skills community center for men who have been homeless.
Compassion Corner has a staff person that cleans the facility each day, but sometimes a space needs a good deep clean (just like a home)! As part of their monthly service projects for the semester, our student ministry stepped in to make sure the space that we use to serve our homeless friends is nice and clean!
