Singing in Worship
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
From the earliest days of worship, vocal music has always been a part of the worship of God. We’ve been given voices by Him for the purpose of vocalizing praise, love, and devotion.
One of the books of the Bible, the Psalms, has been the hymnbook of God’s people for nearly 3,000 years. In worship, we seek to express our hearts to our heavenly Father in our singing. All of us love to hear family and friends express their love to us in words. Think of worship in the same way.
We pick music in worship because of what it says to or about God. He loves to hear you sing! Don’t have a “great” voice? When someone tells you they love you, do you care what their voice sounds like? Every heart that sings in worship is tuned by God’s Spirit. It is music to His ears! In this case, don’t let the “sound” of the voice be confused with music!
