Resting on God’s Word
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
In a conversation with one of my sons, we were talking about the frustration of waiting on God’s timing. In my words of wisdom, I reminded him what my father-in-law always told us, “The Lord may tarry, but he is never too late” to which my son said, “Yeah, Dad, that’s what makes it so annoying!” Well said!
Are you ever frustrated when God apparently does not do what he is supposed to from your perspective? Sometimes we want to “help God along.” Such was the case with Abraham’s “assistance” to God’s plan. He was tired waiting on God. It did not work out too well as we know!
The writer of Hebrews reminds us that “faith is the assurance of things you have hoped for, the absolute conviction that there are realities you have never seen.” (Heb. 11:1) It may well be that as you read these comments, there are those things in your life for which you are trusting God and there is no visible evidence that he is doing anything. Keep trusting his Word. He will never forsake you and improvising on his working does not usually work out too well. Ask Abraham!
