Maturing Our Christian Faith
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
One of our desires as believers in Jesus Christ is to grow and mature in Christian faith. I would encourage us to practice Christian-year spirituality because by so doing we are immersed in the life of Christ.
God commanded the Jews to observe the great feasts (Passover, Pentecost, and Festival of Tabernacles) which rehearsed the saving acts of God as a means of shaping their lives.
By paying attention to Advent, which looks for the comings of Christ─both the Nativity and the Lord’s Return, the Lenten season which helps us understand what was at stake in the death and resurrection of Christ, and the significance of the Ascension and Pentecost in our lives, we are reminded to frame our day-to-day lives in the bigger picture of what God is doing in the world as Christ lives His life through each of us. Additionally, this kind of daily observance reinforces the fact that we are citizens of another world.
