God Is Always With Us!
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
We look today in Psalm 139:2 at David’s words, “You know when I sit and when I rise, you perceive my thoughts from afar.”
The shepherd boy anointed king of Israel was very conscious of God’s presence in his life. He is telling us that our God is very cognizant of our physical presence! Sometimes we may be tempted to think that God doesn’t really keep that close of track on us, after all, there are billions of people in the world. How would something like this even be possible? And secondly, why would God care if we are sitting or standing?
David goes on to say that God even knows our silent thoughts, those imaginations that no one else can ever know. God does know those. In these few words, David is teaching us about the character and nature of the God we worship. He is telling us the practical meaning of “Emmanuel,” “God with us.”
Know that as you stand and sit today and as you think various things, your God goes right with you.
