Chasing after Sorrows
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Any person in their right mind would never “chase after sorrows.” Those are the very things we are all trying to avoid! Yet as we observe the people around us, and in some cases, take a closer look at ourselves, we see evidence of the truth of this verse from Psalm 16:4 “The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods.” God’s word is absolutely true and timeless. David wrote these words 1,000 years before Jesus was born! Perhaps today you can point someone in the right direction who is chasing other gods. The end of their road is sorrow.
As Matthew Henry said long ago, “Ye are the children of the Lord your God; not because God needed children, but because they were orphans, and needed a father.” We are all surrounded by many orphans searching and chasing after other gods. What they are really looking for is the Father. Ask the Father to use you today in helping the orphans around you find Him. Some have never even realized they are orphans.
