I don’t know about you, but it's hard for me to ask someone to do something for me or to help me with a task. Yet here, Jesus tells us, “Ask and it will be given you.” This is rather a straight forward comment regarding prayer. It involves activity on my part to approach God by asking. God wants to give.
James says, “you have not because you ask not.” So why are we reluctant to ask God? Are we afraid nothing will happen? Are we afraid the answer will be a “no"? Is what we are asking too trivial in our minds? Do we think God is too busy with significant things? Are we unclear as to what to ask for?
Is there anything today for which you are afraid to ask God? Asking involves stepping out in faith.
