Is the Bible Relevant?
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Sometimes I’ve heard that the Scriptures are irrelevant to our day. After all, they were written a long time ago and so much has changed since then and we know much more about everything.
Perhaps those people should spend more time in the Scriptures! Psalm 12 is about as accurate a description of our world as there is. David pens “Help, Lord, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception.” He concludes the psalm with “The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.” Irrelevant? David wrote this about 1,000 years before Christ!
He’s describing our fallen culture where what is vile is held up as honorable, courageous, and natural. In between the beginning and end of this psalm, he reminds us that the words of the Lord are flawless. God’s word does not change and is perfect. He protects His people from those who spew lies and deception. The Bible is the most relevant book in history.
