A Wandering Mind
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
In the season of Lent we are more prone to reflect on our spiritual relationship to God as we travel with Christ on His journey to the cross. Jesus spoke clearly and passionately about the heart and what went on inwardly as opposed to the outward, visible signs of spirituality.
The Sermon on the Mount (Mt.5-7) was His commentary on the relationship between the individual’s heart and the OT Law. One of the key factors in shaping one’s heart is where the mind dwells. What is going into your mind today? What images? What thoughts do you dwell on? What conversations do you have in your own mind? What Scripture did you read today? What Scripture did you “chew on” today? Has the Holy Spirit prompted you to do any action today?
I’m reminded of Paul’s comment, “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (II Cor. 10:5) As your mind wanders today, wander in the presence of Christ and His word and you’ll discover more “wonder” than “wander.”
