A Prevenient God
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
David writes “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.” Such a simple short sentence which such profound ramifications.
Frankly, it is hard to comprehend that the Lord of the universe, the Lord of time, the Lord of everything outside of time, the Lord of everything we can’t even imagine, searches out the heart of an individual person, you, specifically!
Why? He loves you as you read this. He is well aware when we are not being honest with Him, when we are hiding, when we are pretending spirituality. He comes after us again and again. It can be kind of embarrassing to be known that well.
What I want us to see today, is not so much you and me, but what kind of character our God has that extends himself to us. Reflect on God’s own heart of love and care. It is comforting to know that our God knows everything about everything and who we are as individuals is not lost in the vastness of the universe as we know it! God searches and God knows. Definitely not a god who started up the universe and then let it run on its own! Our God intervenes again and again.
