A Perfect Law
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
When was the last time you came across a law that was “perfect?" We live in a world where we readily accept exceptions to the rule. “You see, there were extenuating circumstances that meant the law shouldn’t be applied in my case.” How often have you heard that explanation? Another response is “I just felt it would be better if I over-looked that little part. It didn’t make that much difference in the end.” These words are far too familiar. In contrast, David writes “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.” Psalm 19:7
In typical Hebrew fashion, he repeats the concept with different words. Parallel structure is a powerful way to underscore what has been said. In a world which desperately needs revived souls, the clear key is to follow the law and live in God’s grace when we fail. The law doesn’t have exceptions, it simply reveals our need for God’s grace. Extend God’s grace to those around you today.
