A Day of Play, Topaza Style
Madagascar 2015: This post is part of a series of updates following the Madagascar mission team. Read more at fpco.org/madagascar.
We spent today playing, laughing, singing, dancing, and rejoicing with the children and staff at the Topaz Orphanage in Madagascar. What a glorious day!
We started with introductions, then carnival-style games, which led into singing and dancing (Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off is very popular!). We went inside for story time and crafts. The kids only get to make crafts like this about once a year, and they were so enthusiastic…even the teenagers. :)
Speaking of teenagers, we took them out to pizza and ice cream! They never get to go to a restaurant, so this is a big deal to them and a small way to show them that they are loved. This is our third annual pizza trip with the teenagers, and what a great way to end the day in fellowship with each other. Although we don’t speak the same language, God’s love breaks down all the barriers.
First Pres Orlando has supported the Topaza Orphanage for a number of years. Floods destroyed their building in 2012, and we raised funds through donations and sales of a music album to help rebuild their main structure. This was the first time that we were able to see it complete! It is beautiful and functional. A building doesn’t solve all of their needs, but they can now eat and shower indoors.
The staff at Topaza are extremely appreciative of our continued support. They say that although we’re not their only financial support, we remain an integral part of their operation because of our faith, prayers, and the love of Jesus that we bring back year after year.
We’ll let the photos speak for themselves…
Please pray for our continued safety and health. Tomorrow we split up and head to various churches in and around Antananarivo to give our greetings and love from First Pres.
