2020 Class of Elders & Deacons
We'd like to introduce you to nominees for the 2020 Class of Elders & Deacons slated to be voted on during our Congregational Meeting on September 17 (during the 11am worship service).
Barbara joined First Pres after marrying Craig 43 years ago! They have two, adult, married children that have blessed them with six grandchildren! Barbara has served as an elder for the past year and a half, participates in First Moms as a shepherd and enjoys teaching our kindergarteners Sunday school with her husband and some good friends for the past four years!
Bob and his wife Barbara have two children, Bryan and Brooke, and four grandchildren. They have been on staff with cru for 40 years serving at Boise State University, and The University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Bob has served as National Director in the Greater Northwest Region, and then in the Upper Midwest Region. For 13 years Bob was the Executive Director of Campus Field Ministry and presently serves on the Executive Team of the US Campus Ministry.
Jim was born and raised in the small town of Elberton, Georgia, the second of three sons of educator parents. Nurtured in the Baptist Church, he went on to graduate from Davidson College and Emory University Medical School. After a stint in the navy medical corp, Jim did residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He practiced Ear, Nose and Throat in Leesburg, Florida, for 35 years. After retirement, he and his wife of 51 years, Peen, moved to Winter Park to be closer to their daughter and her family. They have two children and five grandchildren. Since joining FPCO in January 2014, Jim has been a member of the chancel choir, volunteers at Grace Medical Home and at Four/12 and mentors a college student who participated in Four/12.
Quino and his family have been members of FPCO since 2005. He has been active in our church community through his service on Session, various congregational committees, and numerous Serve Days and as a member of a long-standing men’s Bible study. Quino also serves as a member of the board of The Gathering and is the former board chair for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando. A native of Jacksonville, Quino was raised in Dallas, Texas and attended Jesuit College Preparatory School and Southern Methodist University, where he met his beautiful bride, Jennifer “Jay” Aubrey. Quino and Jay have been happily married for almost 20 years and are the parents of two wonderful daughters. Quino practices commercial real estate law with Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed.
Rick Pullum is a fourth generation Orlando native was born and raised in South Orlando. He became a member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando in 2000 after marrying lifetime member of the church, Jessica Nagel. Rick and Jessica have three children Mason, Andrew, and Elle. Rick Pullum serves as Executive Vice President and Central Florida Market President for IBERIABANK. He currently serves as a Board Member of Orlando, Inc. and as a member of the Orange County Tourist Development Council. In addition, he serves on the finance committee for iDignity.
Denver Martin his wife Rebecca Martin and their two children Cosette and Aiden have been attending FPCO since 2014. They have been active in the Winter Garden Life Community Group and attended several Serve Day activities since joining FPCO. Denver works as a Senior Manager of Cloud Networking, in IT. Denver is also an Adjunct Professor of IT and Information Security for an online university.
Donna Whelchel was first drawn to First Presbyterian Church by Dr. John Tolson's Basics Sunday School class in 1984. Since then she has served as a Deacon and usher, and she is currently facilitating the Chapter & Verse Book Club and the "Church Ladies" dinners. She retired after teaching British Literature at Winter Springs and Lake Mary High Schools for thirty years. She is currently an adjunct at Rollins College and occasionally teaches the Basics/Foundations class. Donna has one fabulous daughter and son-in-law.
Jim Hadlock was born and raised in Montana and a graduate of Montana State University, Jim came to Orlando following God’s call to leave his natural resource consulting career and transition into full-time vocational ministry as a coordinator of Gospel film translations for indigenous languages spoken in Africa at a worldwide non-profit Christian organization. Jim and Jill were married at the church in 2006 where Jim soon afterward became a member of FPCO. He has been involved with the mission department and adult Sunday School classes. Jim and Jill are the parents of Hannah.
Julie Eastwood has been a member of First Pres since 2006. She has been married to Tom for 14 years and they have a son (Cole) and daughter (Chloe) who both attend The Christ School. Julie has been a faithful servant and volunteer within many FPCO Ministries including The Weekday School, Four12, Children's Ministry and has participated in several Bible Studies and Women Engaged events over the years. She is honored and humbled to be called to serve as a Deacon.
Julie Spencer has lived in Orlando almost 17 years. She is originally from Atlanta, GA (Go Dawgs!). She has been married to Ray for 22 years. They have a son, Cole, 11, whom Julie homeschools two days a week. She has worked part time for the Luis Palau Association for several years, assisting the Development Team.
Melissa Crabtree began attending FPCO in 1993 when she moved to Orlando to serve at the Headquarters for Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). 24 years later she still misses the mountains and low humidity of her native Oregon but loves serving at the Cru HQ and the FPCO family. She attends the Women's Bible Study, the BASICS Sunday School class, serves as a greeter and as a member of the FaithServes Committee.
Sarah is a native of Opelika, AL. She is a graduate of Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy and works as a part time pharmacist for Publix Super Markets. Sarah joined First Presbyterian Church in 2007 and has served at Vacation Bible School, ServeDay, First Connections, and as a Life Community Group host. Sarah and her husband Chris have been married for 12 years and have two sons, Hilton (6) and Charlie (4).
Shari has been a member of First Pres since 1988. She is married to Bill and has two children, Lisa and Steve, and four grandchildren. Lisa lives in Ann Arbor, MI. Steve lives in Winter Park. He and his family are also members of First Pres. Shari grew up in Chicago, went to college in Indiana and lived in Atlanta and Houston before moving to Winter Park in 1983. She and Bill started HTH, Inc. in 1984. Steve runs the company now. Shari was a deacon from 2008–2011.
Suzanne T. Wilson (Suzy) is a retired Interior Designer who has been a member of FPCO for 32 years along with her husband, Bill Wilson. They have a son, Matt, who lives in Charleston with his wife Erin and their three daughters, Lainey, Lucy and Ella (granddaughters). They also have a daughter Sarah who passed away of AML Leukemia in 2004 at the age of 24. She enjoys spending time in Charleston and at their mountain home with family and friends!
Walt Chambers and his wife, Cindy, were married at FPCO in 1988. Walt has been a member of FPCO over 29 years and a member of the Basics Sunday School Class. He serviced as an active FPCO Deacon from 2011 -2015. He has served on several committees including Congregational Life and served on the After School Outreach Ministry Board for 8 years beginning in 1996 when it started. Walt is currently facilitating a small group Bible Study that he and Cindy have been involved with the past 17 years. He also has served as a First Connections Table Host in addition to being a New Member Sheppard in prior years. Walt served on several “50 Good Men Projects” during the 90’s and assisted the Missionary Computer Fellowship group. Walt has worked in Orlando’s Simulation and Training Industry for over 47 years and is currently Chief Scientist at AVT Simulation, Inc.
