Dedication of Homeless Jesus
First Presbyterian Church of Orlando will officially dedicate a new, permanent art installation on our campus in downtown Orlando on May 20 at 10am. Homeless Jesus, a bronze statue by Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz, depicts a covered figure sleeping on a park bench, with distinctly pierced feet.
Matching sculptures have already been placed in several cities throughout the world, including Toronto, Washington DC, Dublin, and are set to be installed in several more, including London, and the Vatican in Rome.
We hope the presence of the statue will not only bring more attention to the cause of homelessness, but also prompt a different way of thinking about everyone we encounter daily in the city of Orlando.
Given by three anonymous donors in memory of their loved ones, Homeless Jesus will be placed next to the sidewalk on Jackson Street, close to the corner of Rosalind Avenue, accessible to those who pass by the church.
