What Do I Know is True?
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
In Psalm 9:9 we read these words: “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
Are there ever times in your life, and I know there are, when everything is going uphill and downhill at the same time? You feel quite a bit like Job. If something more could go wrong or break, it will and does! You are hoping for a little relief and something worse happens. For all intents and purposes, it seems that the Lord has lost your address. You have the distinct feeling you are at the bottom of God’s “to do” list!
The verse (v.10) that follows nails it. “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
In those desert moments, go back to “What do I know is true about God?” He loves me. He does hear my prayers and heart’s longing. He has never forsaken anyone and I won’t be the first. He knows what He is doing. I will believe what is true.
