What are you wearing?
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
We mentioned Christian and Faithful’s trip through Vanity Fair in Bunyan’s allegory, The Pilgrim’s Progress, in our last meditation. The two of them, having been brought to trial, discovered that one of the charges against them was that “their raiment was diverse from any of that traded in the fair.”
These followers of Christ were not dressed in the same manner as those surrounding them. It gave me pause to reflect on clothes as mentioned in the Bible. What we do gain in the larger picture from Scripture is that our dress is to be modest.
What struck me in this whole passage in Bunyan’s writing was that speech and clothing set them apart. These two things were visible to those who surrounded them.
What you say and what you wear is a reflection of your heart to those around you as you bear witness to Christ today.
