This Week at First Pres
Here's what's going on and coming up at the church. Mark your calendars!
SUNDAYS, JANUARY 15 - MAY 14 | 9:45-10:45AM
eacher: Dr. Case Thorp
Learn the story of the Bible along with the major themes and ideas that bind the story and history of humanity together. C-A-S-K-E-T E-M-P-T-Y is an acronym to help teach and remember the Biblical narrative. Using curriculum created by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, participants study the full scope of the Old Testament's chronological, geographical, historical, cultural, and literary context.
As we become more familiar with the Bible, it becomes less overwhelming and more inviting. Meet other First Pres Moms while developing a relationship with a “shepherd” Mom, who can help you apply what you learn in the study to your everyday life as a mother, and follower of Jesus Christ. Limited childcare is available for the morning session only.
SUNDAYS, JANUARY 22 - FEBRUARY 5
9:45am - 10:45am
Facilitator: Rev. Brad Staton
This 3-week course hosted by The Collaborative is a study of Andy Crouch’s book, Strong & Weak. Students will explore Crouch’s work in preparation for his visit to First Pres on February 9.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 22 | 12:15pm-1:30pm
Guest Speakers: Sasan Tavassoli and Marilyn Borst
Join experts from the Outreach Foundation and hear about recent experiences with church leaders in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Gain unique insight into the situation in the MIddle East in regards to the impact on the church, as well as the ongoing refugee crisis.
Dig deeply into letters written by John, the disciple Jesus loved in this 8-week video study by Kelly Minter. Written to encourage followers of Jesus to remain faithful to the truth, we are challenged by these letters to look at contrasting themes: walking in light instead of darkness, truth versus deception, loving God more than we love the world, and the meaning of true community instead of shallowness.
