The Christian Year
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
We are coming to the end of what is known as the Christian Year. November 24th will mark the last Sunday of the current year, while December 1st will be the first Sunday in Advent.
With the start of Advent, you will notice that the colors of the paraments, change to purple, the color both of royalty and of mourning.
Advent marks the beginning of the Christian Year. From this season, whose first Sunday theme is on the Second Coming of Christ, through Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit (on June 8th), the six month focus is singly on the person, life, and work of Jesus Christ, concluding with the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
This year we will make available a daily devotional Advent booklet designed specifically to walk us through Advent to Epiphany (which occurs on January 6th).
A general observation of the Christian year is both instructive and applicable to daily living as we walk this pilgrimage of life following Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
