Search Me O God
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
David concludes Psalm 139 with a beautiful prayer and a wonderful, soul-searching prayer for you today. “Search me, O God, and know my heart.”
Elsewhere the Scriptures say that “The heart is deceitful above all things, who can know it?” No human can understand their own heart perfectly. Have you ever asked yourself, “Why did I do that? What was I thinking!?”
David realizes this and his own frailty. Of David, who once committed murder and adultery, it was said in Scripture, that he was a man “after God’s own heart.” David learned the hard way the value of having God search his heart.
We are wise to be reminded that God searches our hearts perfectly and knows them perfectly. He can and will reveal our hearts to us if we ask and listen.
