Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, the exact town of His birth was mentioned in the Old Testament book of Micah. This is one of many, many prophecies in the Hebrew Bible that foretold in specific detail, the coming of Jesus, the Messiah.
This second Sunday in the season of Advent reminds us of one of these prophecies. In order to be a prophet of God, everything that was predicted had to come true. Prophets of God were never wrong in their predictions about anything. In fact, that was the test of a prophet of God. Deut. 18:21-22.
We rejoice this day in the city of Jesus’ birth, Bethlehem, meaning “house of bread.” It has even more meaning when we remember that it was Jesus who said, “I am the bread of life.”
Even the town of His birth proclaimed the truth of God.
