This is the day the disciples were to wait for, Pentecost. Ten days ago Jesus had ascended from the earth into heaven, and instructed the disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they received power from on high.
I’m sure they wondered “How will we know?” God made sure there would be no mistaking! Naturally, Jesus’ followers had been somewhat apprehensive. After all, Jesus had been by their side the past three years; now He had left them for good.
In His conversation with them in the Upper Room the night of His betrayal, Jesus told them that He would send a Comforter, the Holy Spirit to be with them always. “Emmanuel,” “God with us,” was still true.
Sometimes, the Lord withdraws from us in order to draw us unto a deeper relationship with Him. In Lloyd Ogilvie’s words, “It’s as if He leaves our side and goes on farther down the road and calls us from there, urging us into a more profound relationship with Him.”
Are you being urged to go “farther down the road?”
