He Makes Me Like Down
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
Sheep are not very intelligent. They are virtually defenseless. They are extremely stubborn; only wanting to go straight ahead, no matter what. Getting a sheep to change direction is very, very hard. The Scriptures often use the term “stiff-necked” in reference to the children of Israel. Sheep are definitely stiff-necked!
The sentence, “He makes me lie down in green pastures.” is another comment, not so much on the shepherd, as it is on the sheep. Sheep do not have the good sense to know when they have eaten too much. When the grass is really lush and green, they can overeat, literally killing themselves. The shepherd needs to watch them closely and move them away from the food when necessary. He provides what they need and gives them structure to keep them healthy. He brings balance to their lives. This provision and balance is what the Lord wants to bring to you today. Keep listening.
