“Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup.” Psalm 16:5. If we are truthful, we have to admit that sometimes we really like what God has assigned us and other times we resist our lot. What strikes me here is the specifics. God clearly deals with each person in a highly individual manner. None of His children are lumped together. His love and grace are specific for each person. Note the personal pronouns, “me, my, and my.” A God who is so intimately involved with you and me certainly understands exactly what is to our greatest benefit.
The events in your life and mine, good or difficult, are not accidents. “Coincidence” is not a word found anywhere in Scripture. There is a reason. Our God is sovereign. There is significance and purpose as to why you are on this planet, at this point in history. It would be a shame to miss it because we were fighting against the portion and cup given to us.
The last part of that verse is so powerful. “You have made my lot secure.” Walk in that security today.
