Don't Be Surprised
by Dr. Dan Sharp, Minister of Worship
The middle part of Psalm 12 has the blue print for secular forces at work in our culture. It is very clear that there is a concerted, relentless effort from an anti-Christian mindset to undermine the Christian faith.
David gives us these words, “May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue that says, ‘We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips; who is our master?’” Note the persistence in pushing an agenda. The one who flatters will talk and talk and talk until they triumph and wear down the opposition. Note also the arrogance of “we own our lips; who is our master?”
I can’t help but think these verses so clearly reflect the secular voice in our culture, one where humans sit in judgment of God and what He has said in His word. We are truly “in this world,” but not “of it.” The verses draw to a close with “O Lord, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.”
