If you knew you were going to die within a day or so and were surrounded by your close friends, what would you say to them? My guess is that you’d want to encourage them. You’d tell them what was really important to you and what you wanted them to remember.
Either you or they, would most likely record the conversation so that they could replay it when you were gone. But what if you didn't have something with which to record it? In that case, you’d most likely write it down and take detailed notes as to what was said. Read John 14-17. That is exactly what John did as Jesus talked with his disciples. Notice what Jesus deemed important. You also have the bonus of listening in on Jesus’ prayer to his Father.
