The last verse of the ninth Psalm ends with “Let the nations know that they are but men.”
It is very fair to say that we live in a world in which people generally have a very high view of themselves. After all, we are brilliant! Look at all we have built, designed, and invented. We built pyramids and ancient wonders. Years ago we went to the moon; we have satellites deep in space. Our medical and technological prowess is like nothing civilization has ever seen. We have developed powerful nations with nuclear devices that could actually blow up our entire world. There are those that believe there is nothing we can’t accomplish given enough time and resources.
King David faced some of the same haughtiness with his surrounding enemies and he asked God to show them the truth about themselves. May the Lord remind us this day of those places where we have an exaggerated view of ourselves. We are but men and women. We do not sit in judgment of God and His word. We humbly bow before Him.
