First Pres supports a variety of individuals who are serving in God’s mission locally and around the world. Some are in roles directly sharing the message of Jesus Christ, while others support physical needs by loving and ministering through a local organization or church. In addition, we partner with missionaries in places and roles we keep confidential, in order to protect their safety and the safety of those in their communities.
Keith & Kim Bubalo
Keith and Kim serve on the executive leadership team of the US Campus Ministry. Keith is the Executive Director of Cru Global Missions, providing leadership to the international sending of the US ministry of Cru. They oversee approximately 800 full-time staff serving oversees as both short and long-term missionaries in over 50 countries around the world. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.
Since 1992, God has called Melissa to help everyone know someone who truly follows Jesus. She is currently the Assistant Director of Human Resource ConneXion, leading a team of professionals who send, equip, and resource the 1,000 staff members at the Orlando Cru Headquarters and 500 Americans serving overseas with Cru.
Cru's World HQ staff provide resources and help relieve much of the administrative burden of missionaries in the field so they can focus on the goal of helping to reach the world with Christ's love. Each year God uses Campus Crusade, International, to bring the gospel to tens of millions of people in every area of the world. The HQ staff works to care for both the people who serve behind the scenes and those serving in the field, in locations around the world.
Lance & Elizabeth Edwards
New Mission Systems Int'l
Lance is an agricultural consultant, providing expertise to individuals and ministries attempting to do agricultural projects but who lack the expertise, knowledge or experience needed to be successful. Many pastors, church planters, and missionaries attempt to meet people's physical needs through farming projects, but struggle because they do not have an agricultural background. Lance, who is from Zimbabwe, has varied experience that has enabled him to help project managers think through appropriate and sustainable crops, budgets, and markets. He is also able to help with problem areas and provide training. Lance serves as Regional Director of Southern Africa for NMSI. Lance and Elizabeth serve on the leadership team, specifically in family ministry, at a church plant called King's City Church. The Edwards' have two children, Ashton, and Katie, who are also involved in King's City Church. Ashton operates the sound board for Sunday services, and Katie teaches Sunday School.
Jim & Cindy Hynds
Jim and Cindy lived in Prague from '00-'13, serving as Campus Crusade for Christ's National Director. Their primary focus was university students. Oct 13: Jim and Cindy returned to the US and are now with Faculty Commons (ministry of Cru), ministering among university faculty members in Tennessee. They have three grown, married children.
Roger & Diane McMurrin
Music Mission Kiev
Roger and Diane McMurrin have served in several large churches in America, including First Presbyterian Church Orlando. The ministry of Music Mission Kiev began when they visited Kiev in 1992, just after Ukraine received its independence from the Soviets. Roger brought the music for Handel’s Messiah for the Ukrainian people to hear this music for the first time. It was a time of new beginnings, and the music was “an explosion of light.” The ministry expanded quickly beyond giving concerts to establish a church, ministering to over 400 widows/widowers and also many orphans. Using music to bring the Gospel has been the heart of the ministry.
David & Norma Mitchell
David serves as a Audio Digital Recording Specialist working to record, edit, and produce New Testament scriptures for people groups to be used on phones or Megavoice machines. Norma serves as hostess in the Banquet Department at Wycliffe USA.
Cody & Jennifer Phipps
After serving overseas in Italy, Cody and Jennifer have been working at Cru's headquarters in the Global Leadership Office since 2011, helping the national overseas staff to develop self-sustaining ministries and aiding Steve Douglass, the president of Cru, with communication needs. They have a daughter and two sons.
Matt & Margaret Ritsema
The Ritsemas work with Cru's Global Church Movements (GCM). GCM works to train and multiply leaders, promote strategic partnerships, support and initiate church multiplication, and develop and share tools, resources, and strategies for and within churches. GCM seeks to provide new ideas, tools, and strategies through information, technology, and research.
EPC World Outreach
As the Eastern Associate for Missions Advancement, Phil helps mobilize EPC churches in the eastern five presbyteries for missions, specifically through the EPC's World Outreach. He also travels overseas as requested. For example, he led an EPC enVision Trek mission trip to Pakistanis in the UK in July 2014. Additionally, as the EPC Missionary Prayer Network Coordinator, he and his wife, Diane, mobilize intercessors within EPC churches denomination-wide, to pray for EPC missionaries and the priorities of the EPC's World Outreach.
Dan & Elizabeth Turk
Elizabeth and Dan are involved in health and environment work with the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM). Elizabeth helps with community health (safe drinking water, malaria prevention & maternal health) and AIDS prevention. Dan’s work focuses on helping student pastors and pastors grow fruits and vegetables to improve their food security and the food security of the people in the places they serve. Their son, Robert, attends Westminster College in PA. Daughter, Frances, lives with the family in Antananarivo where she attends high school.
John & Barbara Whitehouse
John works with The JESUS Film Project ®, helping countries in East & Central Asia evangelize and make disciples through JF media tools and equipment.
Barb facilitates volunteers in helping the JESUS Film Project with the many tasks and projects that need to be done on an on-going basis for the worldwide ministry.
Dennis & Lisa Brockman
Dennis is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Cru's Global Advancement Team.
Lisa helps with communications on the Global Advancement Team in addition to pursuing her Spiritual Direction certificate. They have been with Cru 31 and 22 years.
Rebuild Globally - Haiti
Julie's calling through REBUILD Globally, is to support families by giving them economic stability, a goal accomplished through a workshop that makes sandals from recycled tires. When leadership, job training, and dignified employment is paramount, families are given the tools to care for and meet the need of their own children. Their identities begin to alter, hope becomes a reality and survival is no longer the basis for their existence. God is glorified when all people are empowered.
Gabriel & Rachel DeGuia
Gabriel and Rachel have been worshiping at FPCO since 2003 and were married in the church in 2007. They have been blessed by the church through life groups, Bible studies, and the ministry of the Weekday School. They have two little boys. Both Gabriel and Rachel are staff members with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). Gabriel serves with the JESUS Film Project. Rachel has dual roles, serving with missionary care, and the JESUS Film Project.
Kip & Tammy Elliott
Global Service Associates
After 5 years in Europe and Africa, the Elliots have returned to the USA to do Business as Mission in this country. They now own an Urban Mattress store near downtown San Antonio, Texas, the 7th largest city in America. They are trying to do business with integrity in an industry that has long been underhanded in the way it sells to those in need of one of life's basic necessities, a good night's sleep. As reported in Christianity Today Magazine, customers at Urban Mattress, pick from a list of local charities where 2% of the profits are donated. With two of their six children adopted from Africa, the Elliotts continue projects on that continent, aiming to provide reliable electricity and economic opportunity to nations that have so little.
Robert & Barbara Francis
Bob and Barbara have been on staff with Cru since 1977. Presently they work nationally in leadership development, generous giving, and with Faculty Commons, Cru's ministry to professors. Barbara leads the national prayer ministry while she continues to speak and write. They have two married children, Bryan, married to Alison (they have two children, Chris and Dani) and Brooke, married to Lance (they just had their first baby boy).
Joyce and Gene Layton moved to Kiev, Ukraine, in 1999 to serve widows, orphans, and others in need, and teach Bible-based English. Gene died 5 1/2 years ago and Joyce returned shortly thereafter to continue the mission, which is now in its fifteenth year—praise the Lord! Joy works closely with Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, Kiev, pastored by Ivan Bespalov.
Tom & Karen Mills
Tom travels around the world taking photos of what the Lord is doing through the ministry of Cru. These photos are used for Cru's magazine, Worldwide Challenge, the web, and other ministries of Cru. He also helped start a ministry to photographers called Christians in Photojournalism. Karen is a graphic artist, also on staff with Cru. Tom and Karen moved to Orlando in 1991, when Cru moved their headquarters here from Southern California. They have three sons who grew up at First Presbyterian: Daniel, Jonathan, and Andrew. Daniel and his wife live in Japan, Jonathan and his wife, Heather, are in Orlando and are members of First Pres. Andrew and his wife, Nicole, live in Jackson, MS, where Andrew is associate pastor of an EPC church.
World Hop Missions - Amazon
Jonathas has been an ordained Presbyterian minister for 55 years, including four years serving in Pastoral Care here at First Pres. In the year 2000, he organized the first mission trip to the Amazon River for 8 members of a First Pres young adult Sunday School class. His passion for Amazon missionary work was born on this trip. Upon his retirement in 2003, he and his wife, Lilian, organized World Hope Missions Ministry, having as their main goal to preach the Gospel of Jesus through the offering of medical, dental, social, and spiritual assistance to the river-bank people of the Amazon River and its tributaries. They have since led 70-plus successful mission trips, taking more than 1,400 Christian Americans as volunteers.
Tom and Nancy are career members of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., and have served Wycliffe since 2001. Tom operates out of the Wycliffe USA Offices of the President in Orlando and has two roles: Director of Community & Government Relations and Special [Legal] Counsel. In the first role, Tom directs Wycliffe's community & government relations team and outreach efforts in Central Florida, Washington DC, and elsewhere. This team is tasked with building strategic relationships in the community and acquainting civic leaders and others with Wycliffe's mission, while finding meaningful and creative ways for Wycliffe to be a good corporate citizen and support the local community. Nancy, while not currently employed by Wycliffe, regularly supports Tom's efforts in civic outreach. In his second role, Tom is one of two lawyers on staff with Wycliffe. He provides corporate legal counsel to Wycliffe's leadership on a myriad of issues; he drafts and reviews contracts with strategic partners and vendors; tracks and opines on legislation, regulations, and other changes in the law of interest to Wycliffe; and supervises ongoing legal matters of various kinds.
Ed & Ginny Ubels
Ed is in his 40th year of service with Wycliffe. Ginny served formerly with Wycliffe and now works as an elementary music teacher at Cheney Elementary School in Orlando. The Ubelses have 2 married daughters living in Orlando - also one grandchild and 2 on the way! Ed serves in several roles. These include providing coaching and coordination for comprehensive strategic planning initiatives in Asia (and more recently, one in Europe) and giving oversight to a pilot organizational development initiative for several national organizations in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.
