Mercy Drive Initiative

The MERCY DRIVE INITIATIVE is a continuum of care for students from Pre-K to College or Career and is comprised of three main programs:

  1. Pre-K: Music for Learning is a program for 3 and 4 year olds in partnership with Orange County’s Head Start program at the Hal Marston Community Center (adjacent to the Northwest Community Center).
  2. Elementary: OASIS is the City of Orlando's after school program, with whom we partner, for elementary school students at the Northwest Community Center.
  3. Middle, High, College/Career: FOUR12 (adapted from 1Timothy 4:12) has after school programs for middle and high school students at the Northwest Community Center. FOUR12's college and career ministry pairs students students with mentors who help them navigate new territory and maintain a healthy support system.

VOLUNTEER!

Regular commitment: Volunteer tutors and mentors are needed on a weekly basis. Tutors help students at our after school programs (Elementary, Middle, and High) with reading, math, and general homework. Mentors are paired with students in our College & Career programs and meet at times that work best for the pair.

One-time commitment: We LOVE guest speakers and teachers! We are always looking for guest speakers to talk about their careers, host a field trip, or share a testimony. Guest teachers can lead an activity once or lead a whole series of classes in the area of their passion and expertise (cooking, art, music, gardening, dance, health, etc.).

All potential volunteers must complete an application HERE and attend one of our Volunteer Orientations at First Pres (Friday, August 11 from 9 - 11 a.m. or Monday, October 16th from 4 - 6 p.m.) Details and registration link coming soon...
