Traditional Worship
Welcome to Worship at FPCO! At First Presbyterian we are committed to worshipping “in spirit and in truth” and doing so with excellence. We hope that you will join us! We have four worship services each week, two traditional and two contemporary. We value them all equally as valued expressions of worship to our Lord, and hope that in them you will find your worshipping voice and a style of worship in which you can feel comfortable.
In the Traditional Worship services, you will experience classical worship at its very best. The liturgy is traditional and includes prayers, creeds, personal testimonies, time for silent contemplation, and exemplary preaching. The Fine and Performing Arts are vital elements of our traditional worship. The music for worship is classical/traditional in nature and is led by our Chancel Choir, organ and other instrumentalists. Our choirs and ensembles perform regularly by invitation and audition at the American Choral Directors Association conventions and have several recordings to their credit. The arts are also part of worship through the use of liturgical dance, art, and Biblical storytelling. There is no dress code for our traditional services – you can come in your “Sunday best” or in casual attire. The sanctuary does tend to be chilly, so please consider a sleeve.
In Genesis you can expect to experience the same level of excellence in worship – in a more casual atmosphere. Genesis is a mix of contemporary and original music, video, drama, testimony and great preaching and teaching that is relevant to your life. All of the artistic elements in Genesis are there to draw you into the presence of the Lord and help you connect with Him and offer your worship. Coffee is available in the LFH – so come have a cup of coffee and worship with us! You can enter the Lee Fellowship Hall from the entrance in the Angel Wing or through the side hallway directly behind the main Sanctuary. An usher or member of our Welcome Team will be happy to direct you if you are unsure of the location. As you plan to join us in Genesis, please remember that there is no dress code for the Genesis worship service – you can come in your “Sunday best” or in casual attire, but keep in mind that the Lee Fellowship Hall does tend to be warmer than the Sanctuary.
The third Sunday of each month, our Service of Healing and Wholeness offers God’s healing balm to those in physical, emotional or spiritual pain. Incorporating times of singing and significant prayer, the service also includes the Sacrament of Communion. Groups of pastors and elders pray individually with those seeking healing and wholeness.
